Improvements based on First Draft

In our first draft, there is a lot of shots where the audience can we see that the camera is shaking. We can see this especially when the girl is waking up also when you see the creature behind her. To solve this we need to trim the beginning and ends to parts so, we cannot see the camera shaking. Also, by trimming the shots we are preventing the audience from hearing the camera from when it stops and starts.

Another problem in our opening title is that we an hear the wind an passing cars. This is very distracting and the audience may find it difficult to focus on the opening line. To prevent this we may have to mute the clip but, to make the opening effective, we would add  music or sound effects such as dialogue to create a tense atmosphere.

Another thing that we need to improve on, is that in our first draft there is no opening credits. So, at this moment it just looks like clip from a movie, not a opening title. So we will be adding opening credits.

The production has no title so, the audience does not know what the name of the production. Therefore, it is hard to identify the clip to a movie opening.

Another limitation of our opening sequence is that it is too long. The average opening sequence last from a minute to a minute and a half. Our opening is two minutes and eight seconds therefore we need to shorten it by trimming and cutting scenes.

Film draft

For our opening scene we struggled to decide on an an ending. we had one ending full of action and one more focused on enigma codes.
The top video is option 1.
Option 1 is the more action packed ending. With a longer final scene focusing on the wound and the unknown being in her room.
The bottom video is option 2.
Option 2 is the less action packed option however focuses more on enigma codes as you dont see as much.
We took a vote from 20 year 12 and 13 students. 14 out of 20 voted for option 2 but only 6 voted for option 1. Based on the vote we decided to use option 2 as our ending.

Font for Tittle scene - vote

We asked 20 people to do a short survey on the font for our tittle scene. Out of 20 people 13 said they liked the bottom left font so this will be the font we use. Everyone said a black background however 11 said a white font and 9 said a red font. Because the votes are so close we decided we will try to use both colors. For improvements we got many suggestions such as adding an image of a moon and making an animation so it looked like it was dripping blood. So for the tittle scene we decided to have a black background with the font selected with white text and a red outline.

Editing of Video logos

To make our chosen video logo we used 2 programs: Serif Drawplus X6 and Serif Movieplus X6

We used these two programs as they are simple, easy to use and offer everything we needed to edit and create our Video logos.

Serif Drawplus:

We used serif drawplus to draw the logo as seen in the pencil versions. We then decided to put it on a black background.  This was to make sure the video logo was not too big and was centred in the middle of the screen.

We then decided what movements we wanted to happen. So with ETR productions we wanted the blocks to appear 1 by 1 and the letters to follow after with a subtle entrance but we wanted it to dissapear in a extravagant fashion. We decided to enter with a fade and exit with a spin.

With Barnhouse Productions we wanted a lot of focus to be on the picture however we didn't want them to miss the text. So we decided on a subtle exit but an extravagant entrance. We decided to enter with a zoom and exit with a fade.

Once we put it all together we exported it as a whole file and uploaded them to youtube.

Video Logo Vote - Final Decisions

After the vote, we got the following results...

Video logo 1 got 9 votes,

Video logo 2 got 8 votes and
Video logo 3 got 3 votes

The 2 logos with the top 2 votes were going to be the logos we used. As you can see, the 2 video logos with the highest votes are number 1 and 2. These will be the 2 logos we use at the beginning of our opening scene.

Video Logo Vote

We created 3 video logos. We decided we wanted to use 2 at the beginning of our opening scene. So we had a vote. We asked 20 people to come to the vote. The following videos are show a few of the people we interviewed and got to vote.

Video Logo Ideas

We have come up with 3 ideas for our moving ident or video logo. These are the following ....

Soundtrack Options & Choice

Finding appropriate sound effects proved to be a bit difficult at first as many samples did not sound realistic or authentic.

Despite these issues, all sound effects were copyright free and downloaded from YouTube - apart from dialogue "Jenna" used (diegetic synchronous voice-over) because their was more clarity in recording dialogue separately and then pasting it into the scene - finding music instead of creating music was a much quicker process.

The background music (non-diegetic asynchronous) was found on a useful website called Purple Planet where there was a variety of different themed soundtracks to choose from. This made it easier to find suitable music for our production as I quickly found a copyright free piece from SoundCloud called 'Desolation' that was located in the horror section. Although it was found under horror, the slow and gradual incline in volume will create an eerie and intense atmosphere in our opening scene - a sense that something bad is bound to happen.

All sound used (both natural and computer generated, vocal and instrumental) will add layers of tension and a real sense of danger in our production, hopefully helping audience members identify it as a film in the thriller genre - not just a movie clip.

Equipment used in production

The Camera that we used was a VIXIA HF R800 Black. This camera has a powerful zoom and a backlight correction so we can remove shadows from videos that has too much background light. The camera is also light weight and small so it is easy to carry round and take on long distances as I can put it in a small carry on. This camera also has a removable sim card so it makes convenient sharing
the footage with the other people in my group. Also the format of the camera makes it easy to use.

The tripod that I used was a Hammer Star 63 tripod. The tripod was adaptable and easy to use so, we can easily change the angle and height. I also had a handle so we can pan when needed.
